Call for Abstracts

The Surgical Outcomes Club (SOC) brings together a consortium of surgeons and scientists interested in advancing health services and outcomes research in surgery.  The Annual Scientific Session provides an opportunity for investigators addressing some of the most pressing clinical and policy issues facing the surgical profession today to meet, engage, and collaborate.

The SOC is excited to welcome all attendees to the in-person 2024 Annual Scientific Session and provide new networking and educational opportunities for trainees and junior faculty.

SOC invites members to submit an abstract for a poster presentation highlighting their results, activities, and lessons learned.  The SOC encourages diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds to be reflected in posters and presenters.  SOC strongly encourages project teams to submit abstracts that reflect collaboration with a range of end-user stakeholders and engage patients/consumers who are representative of the groups most affected by the condition or care delivery issue the intervention seeks to address.

Submit your abstract for poster presentation using the forms below by Friday, July 19, 2024.

The poster session will be open to all attendees. Posters will be presented at the Annual Scientific Session on Saturday, October 19. One presenter for each poster must be available to attend in person and engage with meeting attendees. Poster times will be shared once the Annual Meeting agenda is finalized.

Health services research is a multidisciplinary field of inquiry, both basic and applied, that examines access to, and the use, costs, quality, delivery, organization, financing, and outcomes of health care services to produce new knowledge about the structure, processes, and effects of health services for individuals and populations.

Outcomes research is a branch of public health research which studies the end results of the structure and processes of the health care system on the health and well-being of patients and populations.

Clinical research is a branch of healthcare science that determines the safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use. These may be used for prevention, treatment, diagnosis or for relieving symptoms of a disease.

You will be notified of your selection status by August 9.

If accepted to participate, SOC staff will provide additional instructions and guidance for registration and travel logistics. Presenters are responsible for their own travel and event registration expenses.

Final posters will be due October 4 in PowerPoint format.
