The Surgical Outcomes Club will have a major presence at the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting this year in New Orleans. We are sponsoring two important events and a travel scholarship.
  • Surgical and Perioperative Care Interest Group Annual Meeting. Within AcademyHealth, the Surgical and Perioperative Care Interest Group (IG) will be held Saturday, June 24 at 8 am – 12:30 pm. The IG is a unique network of multi-professional stakeholders focused on the research and policy issues most important to surgical and perioperative patients. The IG offers a common venue for surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, proceduralists, nurses, health policy analysts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss common, high priority issues that affect the value of care and quality of life for individuals undergoing surgery. The IG aims to create a forum for procedural practitioners, policymakers and researchers to engage in dialogue and share current and future work.
  • Surgical Outcomes Club Led AcademyHealth Research Panel. The panel “Using Research to Transform National Surgical Policy” will be held on Sunday, June 25 at 10:30 am. The panel will present four major studies that have heavily influenced national policy relating to availability of organs for transplantation, surgical training, evaluation of the cost implications of new technologies, and utility of bariatric surgery centers excellence.
